Catherine Ford was born Bloomsbury in London. Because her father's departure, the Ford family was managed by her mom, grandmother and godparents. While she was a small girl, Catherine Ford struggled with obsessive-compulsive disorder and suffered from anxiety because of the word"association. Ford became interested in acting during her teenaged years, and enrolled in the National Youth Theatre. After being accepted to Sylvia Young Theatre School for only a few days however, Ford realised that it wasn't the ideal venue for her. Ford applied instead to the Central School of Speech and Drama and eventually secured the position she wanted on her third attempt. Shaun Dingwall was one of Ford's classmates. The actor was later to play regular roles in the shows Pete Tyler and Doctor Who. Ford's television debut was in an episode in 1991 called Surgical Spirit. By the time she graduated, Ford already went by "Catherine Tate". Tate was featured in a variety of television programmes including The Bill, Men Behaving Badly and London's Burning in the Nineties. Tate was a regular performer on stage as well as a part of the company's 2000-2001 season. Tate began to gain attention because of her stand-up comedic performances in the year 1996.
